A Floater in SmartSub is created as an Extra Duty Assignment. This type of opening is used when additional substitute coverage is needed and is not tied to a regular employee absence.
The following SmartSub roles can create a Extra Duty Assignment:

| Location | Select the appropriate location. |
| Type | Keep the default value of Extra Duty. |
| Assignment Category | Select the appropriate category (for example, Teacher). |
| Description | Provide additional details or instructions for the substitute. |
Select the time period for the assignment:
If multiple floater assignments are needed, continue adding assignments before saving the opening.
If you already know which substitute will fill the assignment, you can assign them before saving.
The edit screen allows you to view assignment details and see who the
assignment has been assigned to.

Select Extra Duty for floater assignments. Vacancy is intended for openings associated with regular staff positions.
