Understanding Gradebook Averages

Teacher Connect Gradebook can display up to three average columns. These columns help you monitor student performance throughout the school year.

Teacher Connect > Gradebook: Settings

IdeaNote: The MPA, CMPA, and PFA columns can be shown or hidden and have indicator colors using the Settings option in Gradebook.

Marking Period Average (MPA)

The Marking Period Average (MPA) is the student's current average for the active marking period.

The MPA updates automatically whenever:

  • Assignment grades are added

  • Assignment grades are changed

  • New assignments are created

Cumulative Marking Period Average (CMPA)

The Cumulative Marking Period Average (CMPA) is the average of the posted marking period grades.

For example:

  • During Marking Period 1, the CMPA is the same as the posted MP1 grade.

  • As additional marking periods are completed, the CMPA reflects the average of all posted marking period grades.

Projected Final Average (PFA)

The Projected Final Average (PFA) estimates a student's final course grade based on the building's Final Average Formula.

The PFA may include:

  • Posted marking period grades

  • Midterm exam grades

  • Final exam grades

  • The current Marking Period Average (MPA) for any marking period that has not yet been posted

Because the PFA uses the district's Final Average Formula, it may change as additional grades are entered and marking periods are completed.

Final Average Formula

The Projected Final Average is calculated using the formula configured by your district.
