SIS: Clear Cache - Disable Extensions & Update Supported Browsers

Clear Cache and Update Browsers

Ensuring Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari are up to date and regularly clearing browser cache before accessing new versions of web-based software or after system maintenance helps ensure smooth functionality, compatibility, security, and performance. Doing so regularly is a good practice, especially when encountering issues or significant changes to web-based applications or websites.

Google Chrome 

  1. Verify that Google Chrome is up to date
    1. Click the 3-dot Menu in the upper-right corner of Chrome
    2. Select Help
    3. Click About Google Chrome - The update will happen automatically if needed.
  2. Clear your Web Browser Cache 
    1. Press Control + H on the keyboard, OR Click the 3-dot Menu in the upper-right corner of Chrome
    2. Select History > History
    3. Click Clear Browsing Data
    4. Click the Advanced tab 
    5. In the Time Range, select All Time
    6. Select “Cached images and files" (and any other items you may want to clear)
    7. Click Clear data

Alert
Close out of the browser (all windows) and relaunch.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Verify that Microsoft Edge is up to date
    1. Click the 3-dot Menu in the upper-right corner of Edge
    2. Select Help and Feedback
    3. Click About Microsoft Edge - The update will happen automatically if needed.
  2. Clear your Web Browser Cache
    1. Press Control + H on the keyboard OR Click the 3-dot Menu in the upper-right corner of Edge
    2. Select History
    3. Click the Delete icon on the History Window
    4. Select All Time in the time range
    5. Select Cookies and other site data
    6. Select Cached images and files
    7. Click Clear Now

Restart the browser

Safari

  1. Verify that Safari is up to date
    1. Updating or upgrading the operating system on your device will ensure that you are running the latest version of Safari
  2. Clear your Web Browser Cache on a MAC
    1. Click Settings
    2. Click Privacy
    3. Click the Manage Website Data button.
    4. Click Remove All to remove any cached data and cookies.
    5. Click Remove Now in the new dialogue box.
    6. Click Done.
    7. Close the dialogue box.
    8. Press Command +Q to quit Safari
  3. On an iPhone or iPad
    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Safari
    2. Tap Clear History and Website Data
    3. Tap Clear History to confirm 

Clear Temporary Files in Windows

Clearing Windows temporary files will also improve performance and assist with resolving cache and cookies issues in your browsers.
1. Go to the Windows Search Bar in the lower left corner of your screen and enter %temp%


2. Press the Enter Key to open the temp file folder


3. Press Ctrl + A on the keyboard to select all files
4. Press the Delete Key on your keyboard to delete the selected files or the Red X at the top of the window.
5. If you see a "File in Use" message, select "Do this for all current items" and then click Skip to delete as many remaining files as possible.

Troubleshooting Printing and Other Miscellaneous Issues

If you are experiencing issues with printing from a supported browser, popup windows hiding behind the main application, or buttons are not working as expected try the following.

Browser Extensions

Disable all extensions and attempt to complete your task.  If the task can be completed without the extensions then turn them on one at a time and attempt the task again.  Repeat until you find the extension that is causing the issue.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner.
  2. Hover over "More tools" and then click on "Extensions".
  3. Toggle off the switch next to the extensions.
  4. To re-enable the extension, repeat the steps above and toggle the switch back on.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the extensions icon: in the toolbar, which looks like a puzzle piece. 
  2. Click Manage Extension
  3. Toggle the switch: next to the extension's name to the off position to disable it. 
  4. To re-enable the extension, repeat the steps and toggle the switch back on. 

Safari

  1. Choose Safari > Preferences from the menu bar.
  2. Click the "Security" pane.
  3. Click "Manage Website Settings" to see and manage plug-ins for specific websites.
  4. Reset the browser to the original configuration
  5. Safari - No setting available simply clear history, clear cache, disable extension.
